The book was a prize for History and Literature awarded to Helen Newberry in September 1934 from Rye Collegiate School and has the award bookplate to the inside of the front cover. The author, who was the Mayor of Rye in 1934, signed it for her on the opposite page but without her name. We bought this item from Helen's daughter. Her mother died just recently in her 90s. Original black cloth gilt, spine faded, slightly creased and frayed at head of spine and along lower joint. Contents clean and fresh. 73656
