FLEMING, Ian. Dr. No. FIRST EDITION IN COMPLETE WRAPPER. 1958 Jonathan Cape. 1958. DW. First edition, in original black cloth binding with brown silhouette of dancing girl to upper board and in the first issue wrapper with the author's name in black to the spine and only four rather than five paragraphs to front and the price of 13s 6d intact. "There is no firm priority established regarding the brown stamping of the girl figure on the top board, but she is continued through the second and third editions. Fleming knew of the variant, giving an example of each to the Lilly library without mentioning priority." (Biondi and Pickard). The prices of this book vary enormously online and we will attempt to describe it fully but would ask you to also examine the photographs in detail. There is a very slight lean to the spine and the smallest evidence of some knocking (slightly raised portion) along the centre of spine. The tail of spine is very sl. crumpled. The endpapers and edges of pages are foxed. Apart from this the book and pages are clean. The wrapper is sl. nicked at the head and tail of spine and corners with a tiny 1.5cm long x 2mm portion missing along top of front panel, close to spine. The flaps are sl. foxed especially along top edge and the wrapper is also sl. internally foxed. The real panel is foxed and soiled o/w VG+/VG. 70515
