First edition. 4to. xv, [i] blank, vii, [i] blank, 126pp. Many of the illustrations drawn by John Bewick but, due to illness and early death, finished and engraved on wood by his more famous brother Thomas. Vignette to title page, 4 engr. plates at start of each part of the poem, 8 engravings to text and three extra plates, one loose, one master for the plates, with the part not filled in, tipped in and one mounted plate "The Departure" loosely inserted. Bound in contemporary half brown calf, very worn and rubbed, marbled bds, also very rubbed, upper hinge tender. Some very light spotting to e/ps and outer margins of pages o/w contents remarkably clean and fresh. 33708
