Family Bible of the Croftes and Decker Families. THE HOLY BIBLE. Containing the Old Testament and the New. The King James Version. 1685. Oxford, Printed at the Theater by P. Parker and Thomas Guy. 1685 Folio. a(1) - Dddddd(1). Detailed and ornately engraved title pages to both the Old and New Testaments. (Please ask for scans). Engraved head and tail pieces with decorated initial letters. The text is in two columns. The Bible is bound in full contemporary [17th century] polished red goatskin with gilt decorations to upper and lower bds, spine and edges of bds. Raised bands to spine and contrasting leather lettering piece. All edges gilt. Marbled e/ps. The head of spine is worn. The corners, the tail of the spine and the upper joint are sl. worn, the bds are lightly rubbed. The contents are exceptionally fresh and sound. A wonderful copy of the King James Bible produced during the last year of Charles II's reign. On the blank leaf before the title page there are one and a half pages of family notes concerning the Croftes family who married into and remained in contact with the Decker family. The notes start with William Croftes, son of Anthony and Elizabeth Croftes, born June 8th, 1911 and Mary Decker, daughter of Sir Matthew and Lady Decker, born Feb. 20th, 1715 who married on Dec. 19th, 1735. Their son, Richard, was born 10th March, 1739 and was baptised on April 17th, 1740 at St. James Church. Their lives revolved around St. James Square and Jermyn Street. The last entry concerns Harriot Croftes who was taken ill with small pox in 1775. US$3600 Price:
