These portraits are delightfully partisan, each engr. has a border displaying beheaded skulls, chains, axes, the Tower, a hanging scene, etc. Under the name of each of these "baddies" is the way they died, mainly executed, some died in prison, one was assassinated and a couple managed to escape and subsequently died in exile. The book is bound in contemporary half black calf gilt, marbled bds., sl. signs of wear to extremities o/w a clean and sound copy of a very scarce Civil War item. 7549 Price:
