Gauffered edges.(This is when the gilt outer edges have been impressed with a patterned tool to create a raised and attractive pattern, here Elizabethan in style.) Portrait frontis. with facsimile of Shakespeare’s signature. Vignette title and many fine period engravings both as plates (with guard pages) and headpieces. 924pp. Extremities sl. worn and rubbed. Plates and their guards tend to be lightly foxed. Small tear to 1 plate and its guard not affecting image. A stout, richly decorated volume. VG US$92
