SCARCE PIRATE EDITION by Benbow and Perkins of London who put the following fictitious publisher - (you can see the play on the name) - Presso Erasmo Perchino. Pisa to the title page so as to avoid prosecution. Also added is a Italian Foreword on this edition by E.P. No date [1822].12mo. 5½ x 3½ inches. vii,138 pages. Bound in full polished black calf gilt, worn to extremities. Inner hinge partially visible but sound. A lovely copy of a very interesting edition. Benbow was eventually prosecuted not only for omitting the name of his printers but also for fraudulent publishing. This title was the only title published under the Erasmo Perchino imprint. There is an Avviso initialled E P (Erasmo Perkins): "La presente edizione stata con la Maggio diligenza risconstrata e corretta, servira di saggio per una raccolta di opera scelte Ieglesi, notanto in verso quanto in prosa, che intend e pubblicare in egual forma, carta e caratteri, con la maggiore accuratezza per la correzione del testo." The melodies, sweet, amorous and poetic are exact. 83005
