First edition. Small 8vo. iv, lxiii, 204pp. + [28]pp. index of fables. Engraved frontis., vignette to title, 14 engraved plates + illustrative head and tail pieces. Rebound later in half brown morocco gilt, marbled bds, gilt bands and title to spine (late 19th century rebinding). Signs of wear to head and tail of spine and along joints and edges of bds. pages browned and lightly stained in places, small portion of outer margin to two plates absent not affecting the illustrations. The book is in three portions; Ancient Fables, Modern Fables and Traditional Fables. A lovely example of a well produced eighteenth century volume. 15331 Price:
